Chopin Theatre is a private arts center celebrating
its 15th anniversary in 2005. During this time it has had over
6,000 presentations (4,000 theatrical, 900 film , 800 poetry evenings
and over 100 music events). Chopin Theatre main presenters have
included Chicago Filmmakers, Guild Complex and Young Chicago Authors
as well as Collaboraction, Hypocrites, Roadworks Productions and
Teatro Vista.
Chopin Theatre has produced over 110 of its own productions, mostly
from Poland and Eastern Europe, and has hosted performers from
probably every state in U.S. and from over 40 countries. In addition
Chopin Theatre has been instrumental in many of the artistic initiatives
that have shaped Wicker Park including Near Northwest Arts, Around
the Coyote Festival and Lorenzo Rodriquez Gallery.
Our guests have included Pulitzer winners Gwendolyn Brooks, Yusef
Komunyakaa and Studs Terkel; writers Stuart Dybek, Sara Paretsky
and Zadie Smith; poets Nikki Giovanni and Luis Rodriguez; actors
John Cusak and Jeremy Piven; musicians Grazyna Auguscik, Peter
Brotzman, Chuck D., Kurt Elling and Von Freeman.
